Check Before Calling a HVAC Company

phoneWe at DHC Comfort believe that no one should have to spend extra money. We’ve compiled a list of simple troubleshooting tips below to help prevent a call or to help us diagnose your problem quicker. We are always available to assist you.

Heat Side

1) Check to make sure that your thermostat is set in the “heat” position.

2) Set the set point temperature higher than the indoor temperature showing on the thermostat.

3) Check the breakers at the electrical panel to make sure they are in the “ON” position.

If you have a system outside, also check the breakers outside, usually located next to the unit.

4) Replace the filter if needed. All filters should be replaced monthly. If the system is running but not blowing out correct air temperature, this may be due to a dirty filter.

5) If you have a gas unit, make sure the gas is on.

6) Newer gas units also have a pilot light that should automatically come on. An older system may need to be manually lit. If it is not on, most systems have instructions located near the pilot light. If not, please contact DHC Comfort.

Cool Side

1) Check to make sure that your thermostat is set in the “cool” position.

2) Set the set point temperature lower than the indoor temperature showing on the thermostat.

3) Check the breakers at the electrical panel to make sure they are in the “ON” position.

If you have a system outside, also check the breakers outside usually located next to the unit.

4) Replace the filter if needed. All filters should be replaced monthly. If the system is running but not blowing out correct air temperature, this may be due to a dirty filter.

5) Check all return air grills to make sure they are not blocked by furniture. These grills are typically located near the thermostat. Check all supply air registers to make sure they are open and blowing air. These supply grills are usually located on the floor or ceiling on the outside walls.

If problems persist after this check list, please contact DHC Comfort. One of our trained and certified specialists will be able to assist you with any problems and questions.
